Introduction to Weaving Class: Mini Rug
Have you always wanted to know how to weave? Let’s make a mini rug!
This class has been set up to show you the process of preparing your yarns, using a warping board, dressing your loom and weaving. You do not need any experience for this class. I have looms that can be used if you do not have one yourself.
Materials:
Warp, 8/4 Rug Cotton: I would recommend getting new yarn for this. You need to have the yarn solid and not snap. I would recommend getting two colors. Bruce at the Yarn Basket has a great collection.
You can also buy some yarn from me for your project. You can purchase this yarn with the class upon check out.
Weft: Your choice of upcycled fabric or wool.
You can use a range of things for this. You can cut up fabric into thin strips about an inch wide. I recommend getting started with a full sheet and seeing where this takes you. I will also demonstrate on the first day how to do this.
You can choose wool that is on the heftier side. I would choose a type that is Bulky or Super Bulky.
I will have some hand spun yarn and dyed yarns for sale. These are coming soon.
Bring: scissors (ideally ones that are used just for yarn or fabric), a pen or pencil, and your yarns.
Tapestry needle: This is a large size needle that is perfect for yarns. You will find these at yarn shops.
The days that I have scheduled for this are:
January 9th to the 12th.
Park to the right of the building. If there has been a heavy rain I will share a different option for you.
Thursday, January 9th: 6 to 8 PM
Introduction class. I will go over how to plan your project, the different kind of looms and share my reasons on why weaving is so special.
Bring something that shows your current creative interests. Do you knit? Do you draw? What compels you with the creative process?

Warping our yarns. We will have warping boards set up for you to prepare your cotton fibers.
Lunch from 12 to 1 PM. I recommend bringing something with you.
We will continue to prepare the warps as needed.
At some point I will share with you how to dress your looms. I will share reasons for “Front Warping” and “Back Warping.” I will then go into how to warp using the Back to Front method.
